About Us

Grace Community Church exists to show people a better way of life through Jesus Christ. Our history dates back to 1995, when a small group of people (8, including Lead Pastor Mike Holt) founded the church on the campus of Georgia Southern University.

We are an inter-denominational, evangelical Christian church. That means that we are governed by our own elders, or board members, not an outside organization, and we believe it is our responsibility to share Christ with others. We are a purpose-driven church with a commitment to reaching today’s “seeker or skeptic.” That means the Celebration Services on Sunday are designed to appeal to someone searching for a meaningful relationship with Christ. At the same time through meaningful worship and challenging messages we hope to help Christ followers grow in their personal faithwalk.

Simple Church

At GRACE we have adopted a "Simple Church" mindset.  Since the Scripture outlines our Mission (i.e. The Great Commandment and the Great Commission).  The purpose-driven philosophy (Worship, Ministry, Evangelism, Fellowship, and Instruction) reveals our direction.  And the "Simple Church" mindset defines our method.

Simple Church is church that…

  1. Confronts me with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
  2. Provides me with the opportunities to grow in my faithwalk.
  3. Challenges itself to keep administrative costs down and pure ministry efforts up.

Responding to the mission, direction, and method of the church demands VISION.  This is very important to the leadership at GRACE.  We believe that people better themselves NOT by committing themselves to themselves, but by connecting themselves to something bigger and better.

The Fundamental Doctrines of GCC

At this church we believe

  • in the verbal inspiration and authority of the Scripture. The Bible reveals God, the fall of man, the way to salvation, and God’s plan and purpose through the ages. (2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”)

  • in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, the triune (three-in-one) God. All are co-equal, co-existent, and co-eternal. (Matthew 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 3:21-22)

  • in the deity, virgin birth, atoning death, and the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. Acceptance of these facts leads a person to repentance and salvation. (1 Corinthians 15:2-4; John 1:1,14, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.….The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”)

  • that we are justified through faith alone, and are accounted righteous only through the merit of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (Romans 4:4-5, “Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. 5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.”)

  • that salvation is a free gift to all; salvation is by grace and through faith, plus nothing and minus nothing. (Ephesians 2:8,9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.”)
